GoodLion Cohort

We're excited to announce a special opportunity for those who want to grow in their faith. While the GoodLion School discipleship is open to anyone who wants to attend, we're creating a special cohort for those who want to dive deeper.

By participating, you'll have access to extra materials to deepen your understanding, including a list of resources after each class / gathering, and access to our Discord Server where you can connect with other students and mentors, engage in discussions, and get encouragement along the way.

We encourage those who sign up to attend all of our gatherings as best they can to get the absolute most out of this cohort. You can see the entire program's year-long schedule on this page.

Features

  • Resources sent to you after each class / gathering.

  • Access to our Discord Server where you can connect with other students and mentors, engage in discussions, and get encouragement along the way.

  • Deeper accountability and a chance to let leaders know exactly what areas you want to grow in.

  • The opportunity to sign up for mentorship with a leader, or to be paired up with another student for a support system.

Semester 1: Laying the Foundations of Faith

Objectives - This semester, we aim to provide students with a strong foundation in the core theologies of the faith. This will include an introduction to Yahweh, Jesus, Sin, Creation, Salvation, and the purpose of mankind, as well as an emphasis on learning how to study our faith using the "Biblical Theology" method. Our goal is to help students understand and embrace their role as followers of God, loving Him, serving Him, and following Him. By the end of this semester, students will have a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental beliefs that form the foundation of our faith.

The Gospel

April: 16th - Discipleship Gathering

Message: The Simple Gospel

Core Idea: Deconstruct ways that we falsely make the Gospel more complicated than it needs to be. Encourage students to return to a simple Gospel, and then encourage them further to live not trying to earn salvation, but instead producing fruit BECAUSE of their Salvation.

Semester 2:
Going Deeper

Objectives - This semester, we aim to explore more complex themes in our faith, including the nature of spiritual beings, the ethics of Christianity, our role as exiles in a fallen world, and what it means to be in right-relationship with God.

Our goal is to provide students with a deeper understanding of these important concepts and to give them space to grapple with their doubts and discouragements. By the end of this semester, students will have a more nuanced and mature understanding of the beliefs and practices that form the foundation of our faith and guide our relationship with God.

August 2023: Depth & Doubt

August: 13th - Discipleship Gathering

Message: Beyond the Shadow of a Doubt
- (Jesus & Thomas)

Core Idea: Studying theology can be mind blowing... but can also be a gateway to doubt. When we move beyond simplistic understandings of God and dive into the deep end (such as going over the Bible Project Spiritual Beings series), we can start to doubt. Sermon shows how Jesus interacts with those who doubt and calls them deeper.

September 2023: Ethics of Jesus

September: 10th - Discipleship Gathering

Message: When God Loves Your Enemy
- (Jesus & Jonah)

Core Idea: One of Jesus’ most challenging ethical ideas is enemy love, but it’s also one of the concepts most near and dear to the heart of the Gospel. We will explore God’s hear to make us into peacemakers who actually show radical enemy love.

October 2023: Exiles in Babylon

October: 8th - Discipleship Gathering

Message: The Problem of Silent Christianity
(Character Study of Daniel)

Core Idea: A massive problem in the Church is that Christians focus on a “personal relationship with Jesus,” and so they make their faith private. As Exiles in Babylon, it’s easy for us to hide in fear rather than boldly stand for what is true. In this sermon we will explore the pitfalls of this and how Christianity is the most important / precious truth in the world, one we must not be silent about.

November: 12th - Discipleship Gathering

Semester 3:
Getting Filled up to be Sent Out

Objectives - This semester, we aim to delve into the role of Christians in the world and our calling as witnesses, light-bearers, and members of a Kingdom of Priests. Our ultimate goal is to advance God's Kingdom and cultivate a lifestyle of being WITH Jesus.

At the heart of our mission is the understanding that our Christian service is not just FOR God, but a partnership WITH Him. By being WITH Jesus, we can truly live FOR Him and fulfill our calling as faithful servants of the Lord.

January 2023: WITH Jesus

January: 14th - Discipleship Gathering

Message: With - The Call to Communion with Yahweh

Core Idea: In ministry we focus SO much on doing things FOR God... but we often miss that what created us for was to be WITH Him. We must serve God out of the overflow of our relationship, rather and striving to constantly do things for Him, burdening ourselves with expectations that it’s our job to save the world ourselves (rather than joining WITH Him in the work He is doing to save.)
